Productions - Directing

These are my most recent productions, which are from my time at Marquette University. I have been lucky enough to be provided with several opportunities to gain directing experience during my time at Marquette, and I'm grateful for the directors who have trusted me as their assistant director.

Action by Sam Shepard

Through the Marquette University Players' Society (MUPS), I had the opportunity to direct a production of Sam Shepard's Action in Marquette's Straz Theater. In this piece, I worked with actors to take steps away from traditional character analysis and reliance on relationships between the characters, as these were not present in Action. By doing so, we were able to delve more deeply into the nature of human connection itself.

Silent Sky by Lauren Gunderson

I was lucky enough to work as the assistant director on Marquette's production of Silent Sky on Marquette's mainstage, the Helfaer Theater. Working with the director, Maureen Kilmurry, primarily involved working with the understudies during rehearsals, leading warm-ups, and being available to discuss changes in blocking. I also helped through providing some dramaturgy for the show, specifically about the scientific concepts mentioned in the script.

The Revolutionists by Lauren Gunderson

My involvement as the assistant director of The Revolutionists at Marquette involved more than the typical responsibilities of an AD. The director, Nadja Simmonds, asked me for input throughout the rehearsal process, but was unable to be present for almost all of the tech process. During tech week, I was responsible for working with the lighting and sound designers, adjusting blocking and scene placement, and providing the final rounds of notes before the production opened.

Melancholy Play by Sarah Ruhl

Marquette's production of Melancholy Play is another mainstage production that I am grateful to have worked on as the assistant director. Throughout the process, I worked with the director, Jaime Cheatham, by providing my input on blocking and the actors' choices in different scenes. Given the depth of the set, I also helped make sure that as much of the stage could be seen as possible by checking sightlines.
